Key takeaway Since 2 March 2026, escalating military airstrikes and ground incursions have claimed more than 3,400 lives.
Why this matters
The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon has severe implications for the health and protection of displaced women and girls, with an estimated 390,000 women of reproductive age, including 16,000 pregnant women, forced to flee their homes. The disruption of essential maternal services and attacks on healthcare facilities exacerbate the crisis, leaving many to give birth in unsafe conditions. The situation is further complicated by the lack of basic supplies and privacy in collective shelters, creating severe protection risks, including gender-based violence. UNFPA's appeal for $25 million to support life-saving sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence interventions is critical to addressing the urgent needs of 450,000 people. The focus on mobile medical teams, strengthening primary healthcare centres, and providing essential medicines and kits will help sustain essential services. The success of this appeal will depend on the ability of humanitarian organizations to access affected areas and deliver critical services to those in need, particularly in hard-to-reach conflict-affected areas in southern Lebanon.
